What is Success? What does it mean to you? What are your goals, dreams, desires? How do you understand money?

Napoleon Hill, the author of “Think and Grow Rich”- the number one selling book of the XX century on lasting success and personal wealth, described the road to inner and outer harmony. He carefully studied the hundreds of the richest people, starting with the richest man of the world at that time – Andrew Carnegie.

It is created by 12 elements…and see that money is at the end of the list.

Napoleon Hill:

“

1. A positive mental attitude

2. Sound physical health

3. Harmony in human relations

4. Freedom from fear

5. The hope of future achievement

6. The capacity for applied faith

7. Willingness to share one’s blessings with others

8. To be engaged in the labor of love

9. An open mind on all subjects toward all people

10. Complete self-discipline

11. Wisdom with which to understand people

12. Financial security

“

Even a tiniest success starts a domino effect. Do you find yourself underestimating your thoughts, innovations, ideas, the power of your creative mind? Feed it with success, it will never be the same.

Many highly successful people speak about the value of one good idea. Ideas are the creators of our lives. They shape the world. They start the avalanches of improvement and success. One after another, stronger and stronger. When your self- assurance grows, your ideas will accompany it.

When you look at Richard Branson, and his vast empire that stands on many smaller firms, like Virgin Planes, Virgin Trains, Virgin Mobile, Virgin Blue…and more than 300 others…What do you see?

there is something that connects them all

it is one simple thought- an idea, a world created by a set of values, that are repeated over and over again.

Money, the value of your passion, service.

What are your successes that you are proud of?

TRUE OR FALSE ?

Many people believe that leaders are born and not made because they think that talent cannot be learned.

Unlike the inherent musical aptitude of Mozart, for example, who was playing minuets at the age of five, leadership can be learned because skill alone does not make a leader, behavior does.

People follow leaders because they trust and respect them, not simply because of their expertise.

Leadership Characteristics

Leaders do not demand brilliance, they help craft brilliance; they guide, not rule.

In order to bring the best out of her team, a leader should demonstrate the very characteristics she wants in her team. In other words, lead by example.
So what characteristics makes an effective and respected leader? She should be:

•	honest
•	competent
•	innovative
•	decisive
•	inspiring
•	passionate
•	positive
•	fair
•	open-minded
•	courageous
•	imaginative
•	humble (she may know it all, but she’s not a know-it-all)
• verbally persuasive

Developing Leadership Skills

If you don’t yet possess all these qualities, rest assured that as you earn the trust and respect from those in your team, you will feel more confident, courageous, decisive, etc. This symbiotic relationship allows those you are leading to feel part of a team, rather than mere worker bees who must be seen and not heard.
In 2008 the British government proposed an initiative where young people would swear an oath of allegiance to ‘Queen and Country’ to increase national loyalty. The initiative was dropped because you can’t force people into loyalty; you must earn it. This proposal said more about the weak leadership of the country rather than the lack of loyalty from its citizens. Good leadership is often more about serving than leading.

A leader makes things happen by:

•	Having a goal and a plan (as motivational speaker Harvey Mackay once said, “A dream is just a dream, but a goal is a dream with a plan and a deadline.”)
•	Putting together a good team
•	Inspiring and encouraging each team member to give their absolute best

As a leader you must possess a good measure of self-awareness so that you are aware of your strengths and weaknesses, and can therefore build a symbiotic team that is mutually beneficial.

Importance of Fun Learning

As we all know from experience, the things we tend to remember are the things that interest us. People learn better through experiential learning and games. The best way to build leadership skills is to make it both fun and instructive, and the best way to do that is by playing leadership games. From simple ones where the task is less important than the experience, to more specific ones where the task is the experience, the most important thing is to make sure the challenge is enjoyable.

An example of a simple leadership game is The Survival Game, which is common in leadership training seminars. Each team is given a survival scenario (like plane crash or shipwreck) and must come up with ten items necessary for survival. In a leadership game like this, the leader exercises her skill in ensuring a group consensus.

More complex games might include Clinton Swaine’s Play To Win, a three-day seminar that teaches people to solve real-world problems with real-world tools within a game format. The skills you learn here will translate to your real-world business. Swaine’s leadership game is based on Plato’s reflection that “you can discover more about a person in an hour of play than in a year of conversation”.

Jack Canfield, another popular motivational speaker and author, describes his Come As You Will Be game, in which you throw a party where all the guests dress, talk and act as the person they want to be in five years’ time. This game saturates your subconscious with images and, more importantly, feelings of your success by strengthening positive neural pathways to your brain. What’s real in your mind is real in your life.

So if you see yourself as a leader, start by learning leadership behavior through self-awareness, observing successful leaders, and participating in leadership games to develop your skills.
what’s on your mind?

While flipping through my father’s old sports magazines, I came across this famous story:

In the 1970s there was a car racing team that won one race after another. The team consisted of Finnish driver Timo Mäkinen and his British pilot Henry Liddon. They raced together for more than twenty years and their international rally wins were:

1964 Tulip Rally (Mini Cooper S)

1965 Monte Carlo Rally (Mini Cooper S)

1965 1000 Lakes (Mini Cooper S)

1966 1000 Lakes (Mini Cooper S)

1966 Three Cities Rally (Mini Cooper S)

1967 1000 Lakes (Mini Cooper S)

1972 Hong Kong Rally (Ford Escort RS)

1973 Arctic Rally (Ford Escort RS)

1973 1000 Lakes (Ford Escort RS)

1973 RAC Rally (Ford Escort RS)

1974 RAC Rally (Ford Escort RS)

1974 Ivory Coast Rally (Ford Escort RS)

1975 RAC Rally (Ford Escort RS)

1976 Ivory Coast Rally (Peugeot 504 V6)

Pretty Impressive…! They were an unbeatable team but it was not plain luck; there was a key to it. This is their story:

Two weeks before every motor race, Henry Liddon, being a navigator or pilot as some call it, arrived at the rally location. He borrowed a car and went through the whole track several times to familiarize himself with it and learn where the important places would be, like the service bay. After several days when he knew the plan nearly by heart, Mäkinen would arrive and they would practice together, using Liddon’s notes. They went through the whole track several times and the result was inevitable.

They won.

During the race, the navigator needs to have quick solutions to questions, and the answers come from preparation, intuition and experience.

The business environment is a carbon copy of this. You need speed, quick reflexes, sharp skills, and you need to be able to look far into the future. When you prepare and write a detailed business plan, you become hardwired for success. Writing a business plan makes you more creative, able to see the big picture—the purpose of your entrepreneur idea—and lets you see what is needed in order to succeed.

We all love to win. And there can only be one winner. What creates the winner is:

- passion and drive, as well as awareness of purpose (that’s the driver)

- a detailed plan of action, a business plan (that’s the brain of the race)

Without these qualities you can still drive, but without a plan you may end up going nowhere. It is the strategic planning process that takes you further. Having a plan enables you to become a winner.

And here is what Lance Armstrong* has to say about winning, mindset and strategy

Here are four examples of young entrepreneurs who became multimillionaires in a short period of time, building their financial futures on invention. The simple billion dollar idea comes out of a need to improve what exists and what can be done much better.

The examples are taken at random as the world is full of people doing this kind of work. See what drives them.

Need is the mother of invention:

1. Gurbaksh Chahal, born 1982

Also known as G, an American entrepreneur, author and TV Personality, Chahal appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show. He created:

Clickagents.com at the age of 16 , sold it for $40 million to Yahoo in 2000

BlueLithium.com at the age of 22, sold it for $300 million to Yahoo in 2006

He was born in India and moved with his family to the USA at the age of 4. After having difficulties with his peers at school he concentrated on expanding his own creativity, which brought to life his first company and was soon followed by his second invention BlueLithium.

His core values:

family

excellence in what he does

creativity, inventiveness (his second company, BlueLithium, was named Top Innovator by AlwaysOn)

the best revenge is doing well; his dream fuelled his success

getting ahead and controlling his own destiny and not letting anyone else try to put him down

2. DAVID KIM, born 1979

C2 Education, America - c2educate.com - 2008 - $48 million

While in college, David started teaching young kids. When he saw how they improved he knew that it was something that he should be working on. He loved watching their ability to improve at anything they really wanted. “Being able to motivate them and relate to them, since I wasn’t that much older, I saw there was a niche for that type of mentoring and tutoring.”

Core values:

excellence

helping others succeed

taking care of the pupil’s individuality

working with the right people, choosing excellent tutors and expanding the brand

knowing the big picture, the purpose of his business

3. GARY GOLDBERG, born 1970

America, Rhode Island - cleanrest.com – 1998 – $20 million

This is a company that produces allergy barrier bedding products. The idea first came to Goldberg after his young child had major problems with allergies which prevented him from sleeping because of the dust mite waste. The high quality products he needed did not exist at that time, so he decided to invent them.

Core values:

obsessed with improvement

obsessed with security of people’s health

perfectionism: be the best, and the market is always for there you

authenticity and honesty, and building the brand on the foundation of integrity and high quality products

Never give up. “Everything that I have ever started in my entrepreneurial career has been mocked at the onset. People would say: ‘That’s ridiculous. What do you think you’re going to do? Why would anybody want that?’ If you believe in it, rationalize it, go back to it and rework it. It can happen.”

4. TONY HSIEH, born 1970

Zappos.com with Nick Swinmurn

This is a one-stop online shop for men’s, women’s and children’s shoes that is projecting $1 billion in sales by the end of 2010.

An idea emerged when Nick Swinmurn went to the mall and lost time searching for shoes that he wanted. A light bulb moment arrived with the will to simplify and create an online store. He encouraged Tony Hsieh to invest his money and from 1999 to 2003 the company made $65 million.

Core values:

will to expand

desire to deliver excellent service

receptiveness to the needs of the current customers

self-reliance

simplicity

be humble

create fun and little weirdness

One of the best ways to master a new skill is to learn public speaking and to teach it to others. Investor and business man Warren Buffet proved this theory when he taught investing to people twice his age. Chris Howard, master of NLP and wealth creation, has also successfully demonstrated this idea.

Why is teaching others the subject we want to master so groundbreaking?

We all have a unique way of looking at complex problems and discovering solutions to them. The more we understand the problem, the sooner we can solve it, and one of the most efficient ways to understand something is to put it into words by talking about it with others. This is when our vague ideas take shape and every time we talk about the idea, the shape becomes more focused. If you try to understand the issue by teaching it to others, you can’t help but move forward, because when we teach, we need our listeners to understand us and we can also learn different approaches to the discussed problem. Teaching becomes a brainstorming session, opening doors to new ideas and, of course, to better understanding. This is when the “light bulb” moments appear.

What is the result of clarity of thought?

Napoleon Bonaparte was famous for being able to express his plans in a very simple and precise way. As a result, he is one of the greatest geniuses of all times. He was able to conquer nearly all of Europe in record time and win “unwinnable” battles. He said about himself that his arm was directly linked to his head; he was quick to recognize his intuition and act upon it. The easiest way to heed your intuition about something is to hear yourself talk out loud about it.

Another great example…

By talking about money and by learning new vocabulary related to it, you expand your imagination in that particular direction. You can choose nearly any topic and the result will be the same. The more you understand a topic, the more intuitive your ideas about it become and then the results are immediate. This is, of course, connected to the limited focus of our brain, which takes in and processes only a small fraction of what is happening around us. The ability to choose keeps us sane. But at the same time what you choose to think about on a continuous basis becomes your reality. When the results are not what you want to have in your life you can change them by directing your focus to those parts of reality that have been out of focus for you. And you do this by brainstorming with other people on a particular topic, and the best way to do this is to teach them.

When you learn something new, you remember only a small fraction of this new knowledge. Repetition is the key to success, and by teaching you strengthen what you already know. Why is this so? There are many factors at play, including the way our brain works to gaining self-esteem and confidence in a particular field.

Remember…

When you teach a particular subject you are confronted by people who see it from their own perspectives. You become more tolerant both for yourself and for others. This then opens up tremendous possibilities for your imagination to grow… and it is imagination that rules the world.

“Why can anybody, including you, be rich?” Chris Howard asks. He reveals the fundamental laws to achievement and explains the process of achieving spiritual, emotional and financial wealth. If other people can break through their limitations and start living their dream life, can you do it too? What is holding you back in your life? How do you limit yourself? What do you feel when you look at those who achieve their goals, and realize that they are happy, fulfilled and constantly moving forward? If you knew that you could be, do and have anything you want, what would it mean to you? It’s priceless, isn’t it?

Chris Howard’s background: he is an internationally acclaimed wealth creation expert, personal development trainer and NLP (Neuro- Linguistic Programming) leader. He achieved his mastery through his passion for improvement, knowing that life could have been better than it was, could have given him back the happiness and passion he felt in his heart. These days he lives a passionate life, has wealth on every level, and is in a great relationship. It takes action to have what you want. Actions may vary but there is only one fact: thoughts and dreams need action to become reality.

Wealth affects and is affected by every aspect of our lives, not just financial, but emotional, too. When you change one aspect, the other shifts as well. When you invest in your own education, in teaching yourself how to become wealthy while staying happy doing what you love, your spiritual and emotional lives improve as well. Why is this so? How does it happen? What we focus on, from the overwhelming amount of information we are surrounded by at every given moment in our lives, becomes our reality. If you choose to concentrate on financial abundance, you delete poverty as a result. If you choose to focus on your lack of money, then you remove wealth as an option.

Here is an example of this (you will need to do this with someone): ask the other person to look at her desk and count the amount of pencils and pens on it. Tell her to close her eyes and then ask this question: “ How many books are on the table?” Are you surprised by this question?

This simple example explains the way we understand reality: when you focus on one thing only, you eliminate the alternatives. You can be rich—or anything else you want to be. It is simply a matter of choice: what you concentrate on and the actions towards your desired outcome. Thomas Edison said, “Great ideas originate in the muscles.” It is persistence and patience that expand them.

Oprah Winfrey once said, “When I was a young girl growing up in Mississippi, I would have never known that anything existed other that the poverty I lived in if it weren’t for the books I read.” What makes people become rich starts in their minds. The mind is where everything originates from. No one will ever make you rich but yourself; only you have the key. Bill Bartmann became the 25th wealthiest person in the world after having grown up surrounded by alcoholism, street gangs and poverty. We are all equal in terms of possibilities. Napoleon said, “Respect the burden,” and he knew what he was talking about. His success followed. Do you want to discover your own unique leadership skill and way to life and wealth? This is what constitutes our deepest core: intuition, self-reliance, thinking, dreaming..and taking action.

There is nothing of greater importance for our emotional and physical health than self-reliance. It can always be relearned if not present. For example by attending seminars, learning from others. Like Wealth Propulsion Seminar by Christopher Howard.

Money always follows.

Napoleon , one of the strongest personalities in the history of mankind, wanted to change the world. He knew that it was possible because he had changed his own life. In his immortal words you can find the key to greatness in personal development, leadership, wealth, honesty and a path to success.

“Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or very bad acts. All depends on the principles which direct them.” Principles and values create focus. If you want to be successful there is no question whether you can; the question is to what extent? It all depends on your values. Here is an example of comparison: two men – Warren Buffett and a 47 year old businessman from Austria. One is a billionaire, the other a multimillionaire. One is the second richest man in the world, and his fortune is still growing, the other gives away his money and possessions, unable to be happy with his wealth. What creates the difference are their principles and values.

“Death is nothing, but to live defeated and inglorious is to die daily.”

“He who fears being conquered is sure of defeat.” Your present focus projects your future. To avoid something that you fear, you have to imagine it—how it looks and feels—and by imagining it you concentrate fully on it. Because our brain processes only a small fraction of events taking place in our lives at any given moment, you will therefore attract more of what you are concentrating on into your life. To understand more about this concept, we recommend a movie about the way we perceive the world called “What the Bleep Do We Know”.

“I have only one counsel for you – be master.” Donald Trump said, “Think BIG or go home .“ Thanks to science, we know that due to the capacity of our brains, our thoughts are not fixed, but rather dependent upon our will. Thought it may not always feel this way, we always have a choice between a sad thought and a happy thought as a reaction to an experience.

“A true man hates no one.” “The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed.” This quote is attributed to Buddha. What he is saying is that when you respect your own feelings and listen to your own intuition first and foremost, there is no one to fear and no one to hate. The strengths of your inner self and of your character are measured by the respect you have for other people. You may disagree with their opinions but these opinions cannot harm you. The perfect example of this can be observed in an example of Dr Viktor Frankl, the prisoner of four different German concentration camps. He survived the tragedy of captivity thanks to his ability to make choices about the way events affected him. He never let humiliation touch him.

“Respect the burden.” The problems people face are the foundations of their successful future. Difficulty brings the biggest breakthroughs when overcome. True happiness is built on the foundation of self-esteem and self-reliance, and challenges always strengthen these virtues.

“The battlefield is a scene of constant chaos. The winner will be the one who controls that chaos, both his own and the enemies.” Literal battlefield or not, every single moment of our lives gives us the opportunity to control the chaos. We are forced to make decisions at any given moment, and some of these decisions shape our lives powerfully. It is a constant fight between who we are and who we want to be. There are no two moments alike. Thus the decisions we make define our future. The more we listen to our inner intuition, the more we learn to act the way we feel is right the closer we come to our inner genius mind. The capacity of our brains are far beyond our imagination, and the powers we possess are measured by the examples of great people in business, arts, sports, science. For example, the genius of Einstein is based on his ability to choose his own judgments despite the words of others. Listen to your gut. Control your own chaos.

“The best cure for the body is a quiet mind.” Our brain creates everything that exists in our lives and what will come into existence in the future. It has been proven by modern science that our minds do not differentiate between real events and imagined ones when it comes to our bodily reactions, so the brain creates the same chemical reactions and as a result we feel happiness, fear, depression, etc. All illnesses are created by the way people think. It brings great hope because we can cure ourselves by first looking after the well-being of our mental health, our self-reliance, our purpose in life, our ability to love. Here are two simple examples: one, look at people in love – their beauty, radiant skin, and inner vitality reflects their well-being. Two, laughing yoga: laughter cures all. There are many examples of cancer patients curing themselves by watching comic movies, laughing, and surrounding themselves with bright colours and positive people.

“Throw off your worries when you throw off your clothes at night.” The worries people hold on to are the results of their no longer helpful habits. Worry is counter-productive when it lasts too long or when it posses us. Simply put, worry is a waste of imagination.

“Victory belongs to the most persevering. The truest wisdom is a resolute determination.” The perfect example of the truth of this thought is Thomas Edison, an American inventor and owner of more than a thousand patents, including the invention of the light bulb. He tried many thousand times before he succeeded. What he said was, ” I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that it won’t work.” He also advised, “Be courageous. I have seen many depressions in business. Always America has emerged from these stronger and more prosperous. Be as brave as your fathers before you. Have faith! Go forward!”

On the January 29th , 1954, in Kosciuszko, Mississippi, Winfrey was born into poverty to a single teen mother. She had a difficult childhood, including extreme poverty where she wore dresses made of potato sacks. She was raped, ran away from home, and became pregnant, all by the age of 14. At school, despite her dysfunctional family she became the best in her class and won the title of Miss Black Tennessee at the age of 17. And this is when the greatness started to emerge. She was sent to live with the man she calls her father, a barber in Tennessee, got a job in radio while still in high school , and began co-anchoring the local evening news at the age of 19. Her emotional connection got her upgraded to the daytime talk show arena and, after boosting a third-rated local Chicago talk show to first place, she launched her own production company and became internationally recognized. She soon became the world’s only black billionaire.

This is how the snowball effect is created. By “snowball effect” we refer to Warren Buffett’s famous saying that if you roll a snowball down a snowy mountain, it will become bigger and bigger by the time it reaches the bottom. This is how great ideas create a compounding effect.

Oprah Winfrey once said: “When I was a young girl growing up in Mississippi, I would have never known that anything existed other that the poverty I lived in if it weren’t for the books I read.”

Some of the most important factors to Winfrey’s success are:

honesty

conviction about limitless possibilities, passion to see the results, ambition

drive to learn, to expand and know the reality that will bring happiness

the will to help the world and other people

the will to be loved

It is easy to let negative obstacles ruin our lives, slow us down, and show us the dark side of events, misleading us into the fields of desperation and depression. On the other hand, misfortunes can move us into a world of achievement and miraculous success and wealth. What makes the difference is our choice. We always choose whether misfortune will strengthen our will and character or smash us to the ground. There are examples of both extremes everywhere. Nowadays we have amazing opportunities to learn from the best on just how to become the best in our careers or our lives—and not just by reading books, like Oprah Winfrey used to educate herself. We have examples of greatness everywhere we look: sports, arts, media, business. All it takes to start is to believe that success is within all of us. This was the foundation upon which Oprah Winfrey built her successful life and financial empire.

Take the step. Learn.

Those who don’t dream, don’t win.

Two true stories- Warren Buffett’s and Mr Reese’s*- illustrate how one man became one of the greatest philanthropists in history who is still building his fortune, with self-respect and a healthy view of money, while another man went from poor to rich and back to poor again as he gives away everything he owns because he doesn’t understand the real value of money.

Both Buffett and Reese* entered the field of business with similar backgrounds: having grown up in the poverty consciousness of the Great Depression. They were both able to create fortunes of different financial levels, but all wealthy people agree that it is just one step for a multimillionaire to become a billionaire. It is simply a matter of business expansion to progress to new, yet similar, areas. The biggest step before letting in cash flow is knowing the purpose one wants to create fortune for, and having the mindset of wealth creation – the skill that lets billionaires who lose their fortune regain it.

Warren Buffett has said about business, and which is a foundation for every success:

“You should have knowledge of how business operates and the language of business, some enthusiasm for the subject and QUALITIES OF TEMPERAMENT, which may be more important than IQ points. These will enable you to think independently and to avoid various forms of mass hysteria that infect the investment makers from time to time.”

Two Men

Concentrating on the opposite value of money :

Buffett – Money is productive, can be used to solve some major world problems if used well by intelligent investments (like the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation), and can be built up to a substantial level (multibillion dollar fortune).

Reese* – Money is evil, counterproductive, creates differences in societies, can isolate rich people, can be responsible for raising the level of poverty in societies.

Different purposes of wealth creation :

Buffett – To seek pleasure in business and investment, to seek partnerships, to learn and expand.

Reese* – To avoid the pain and poverty of his past (what you concentrate on expands in your life; focus creates results).

Different understanding of money :

Buffett – Money is a tool and the human experience should always come first, material things come next, money is a reward only.

Reese* – Money creates a different reality, no internal stability. Robert Kiyosaki once said: “If you don’t first handle fear and desire, and you get rich, you’ll only be a high-paid slave.”

Similar concerns of the wellbeing of the planet and people: both men are givers – Warren Buffett gave more than $30.7 billion, Mr Reese gave $5 million.

How they see philanthropy : Both men see that the best philanthropy is in educating people how to become independent. Warren Buffett doesn’t let his children inherit his entire fortune, knowing that money has the power to build and to destroy. Mr. Reese creates a microcredit charity that supports new small businesses in South America.

Different conclusions from poor past : Mr. Reese* feels a lot of guilt, while Warren Buffett tries to solve the problems of the world with his wealth.

What creates true greatness? What are the characteristics of lasting wealth and happiness? What are your thoughts on the similarities and differences of these two men and the consequences of their actions and beliefs around wealth?

This is the Key To Lasting Wealth. Two prime examples: a millionaire Austrian businessman, and Warren Buffett, a billionaire American investor.

Both men know how to earn money, but they are examples of two different approaches to and beliefs about money. By seeing the results of different goals and values in life in these two true stories, you will be able to rethink your life and your own possibilities, avoid making mistakes and realize your own achievements.

Warren Buffett, aged 80. Omaha, Nebraska, U.S.

In 2008 Warren Buffet, American investor, businessman and philanthropist, was the richest man in the world, worth $62 billion. According to Forbes, he was dethroned in 2009 by Bill Gates – one of his best friends – dropping him down to the second wealthiest man in the world at $37 billion. An American investor, businessman and philanthropist. He is one of the most successful investors of all time.

His Story

Buffet was born in 1930, in the heart of the American Depression. He started working at his grandfather’s grocery store early on in his life, slowly building up his financial consciousness and imagination. He bought a pinball machine at the age of 15 and placed it in the local barber shop, and was soon installing two more. He received his diploma in economics from Columbia University in 1951, and went on to work for several companies, gaining experience in stock investment and building valuable partnerships. He has always valued mentors who have became his great friends, like Benjamin Graham, Phil Fisher, Walter Schloss and Charlie Munger. Buffett was once asked: “What’s the first thing that someone ought to do in order to become wealthy?” His response was, “Invest in yourself. That’s number one.”

He became a millionaire at the age of 32 due to his partnerships. He discovered Berkshire Hathaway, a textile manufacturing firm, and took control of it by purchasing its shares. He also started investing in private companies like Hochschild, Kohn and Co, a department store in Baltimore. In 1979 his net worth reached $620 million. He owns stock in Coca-Cola, ABC and Salomon Inc. His continued investments made him the richest man in the world by 2008. He has three children, lives in a five bedroom house that he purchased in 1958 in Omaha, and has another home in Laguna Beach, California.

Philanthropy

As Buffet says, “I don’t have a problem with guilt about money…. There’s nothing material I want very much.” He is planning to give away his fortune to worthy charities like the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation at the end of his life. As of June 2006, he had already donated shares of his Berkshire Hathaway worth $30.7 billion to the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation, and has given $50 million to the Nuclear Threat Initiative in Washington. He is certain that giving money to his children would not be a good investment for their future, as such wealth should be spent in a way that would benefit the world as a whole. He said about his children: “I want to give my kids just enough so that they would feel that they could do anything, but not so much that they would feel like doing nothing”.

He has spent his life doing what he is best at: earning money, making investments, doing business, and all with honesty and an ongoing education. Due to his ability to multiply his fortune, he has created vast amounts of money that can make a difference in the world if spent well. Plus he is a continual inspiration for aspiring investors, philanthropists and politicians. He uses money without being used by money.

He lives surrounded by a small circle of loyal friends, supporting solutions to major problems of the world, in a happy relationship with his second wife, influencing new generations of young investors and setting up a guide for ethics in the business world.
