What kind of leadership skills will be required in the future?

THE FUTURE

Our future will require the ability to find new solutions to the growing problems of the ecosystem, the stability of world peace, and thus our survival. In many already destitute nations, such as parts of Africa and South America, a lack of food can easily create wars between groups of people. The changing situation will bring huge challenges and also great opportunities. Business will flourish, and it will build strong foundations for the security and future of our planet.

In the future what leadership skills will be needed? And what type of leaders will be required?
Throughout history, we have seen time and again that chaos always gives birth to a strong ruler: Napoleon Bonaparte, the god of war, Alexander the Great of Macedon, or in more recent history, Joseph Stalin.
But if we want to protect our future we will need something absolutely opposite. To survive as a whole, to sustain life on earth, not just for humans but for the animals and plants, to have fresh water and clean air we need leaders who will be able to unify the whole planet. Humans and wildlife. With the growing number of people and declining resources of fresh water and food, we will have no choice but to start existing more consciously as one organism. Or to start fighting for food, which will encourage catastrophic consequences, which is what happened in Rwanda and Burundi in 1994, when genocide claimed the lives of nearly 1 million people in only 100 days.

Forecasts For the Future

• our current population of 6.8 billion is estimated to grow to 8.9 billion by 2050, which will continue to increase the already high levels of pollution, conflicts between nations, and a growing need for food and water and thus more fertile land
• growing need for strong individuals and to raise of the importance of proper authority
• depletion of the fisheries of the oceans
• more severe weather changes and weather-related catastrophes like hurricanes as well as more difficulty in producing food because of too high or too low temperatures
• rising level of poverty caused by the weather changes, and therefore a rise in terrorism
• huge differences between the wealthy and the poor and the rise of wealth in the more technologically advanced nations

But not just negative forecasts; there will be some positive ones, too:

• decrease in pollution because of an increase in human consciousness about the need to sustain life; popularity of eco-friendly technology and thinking
• birth of a new type of “profitable and good for the planet” business, as well as business leaders like Richard Branson
• increase of awareness of the growth of practical education; the importance and power of the internet and TV
• rising level of health concerns that will catapult the protection of the wildlife
• growth of large corporations

So the leadership skills that will be needed are:

• integrity, complete honesty
• open-minded cooperation with nature as a partner and surrounding oneself with the top thinkers on the planet
• drive for excellence
• hunger for knowledge about the stability of the ecosystem
• strategic thinking and decisiveness like long-term goal planning and the ability to monetize the crisis
• the desire to persuade business people to invest in “green” companies, and to give such firms the ability to prosper
• empowerment
• passion about the future
• persuasiveness
• independent thinking as well as the ability to respect and listen to others
• ability to question reality
• ability to understand human psychology and the behavior of the masses

Nature has the power to rebuild itself, but we need to give it time. The 21st century is the era of choice; if we can think globally, our future will be more prosperous and happy than we have ever experienced before in the history of humankind. There is a way to do it—education and integrity are the keys to the future.

The world of the future will not resemble the world we currently know. Our whole planet is changing. We are breaking down the ecosystem and thus weakening its ability to rebuild balance and stability on this planet. And we need natural harmony if the whole system is to thrive, which includes clear water, wholesome food and fresh air. There are many feasible solutions to this problem right now, and still more that are yet to be discovered. But to succeed, we will need a new type of leadership, one headed by such an individual as Richard Branson.

The Current Situation

A simple example such as the sperm whale can illustrate our current situation. Recent studies have shown that the tissue of sperm whales contains significant amounts of toxic metals like mercury, cadmium, chromium, titanium, silver, lead and aluminium in doses that are far beyond what is acceptable to an organism’s ability to reproduce and sustain its species. Chromium alone is known to cause cancer in humans. These findings show the unfolding danger not only for the fauna and flora of the oceans, but also of humans since many of us consume fish. Seafood is the primary source of animal protein for 1 billion people on our planet. The fact that whales contain such high levels of toxins demonstrates an obvious truth: that all other ocean-dwelling species are exposed to them as well.

The oceans are filled with toxins that were mostly created after the second World War when we dumped huge numbers of contaminants into the water, including the fertilizers we use on our crops that are washed from the fields and eventually flow into the oceans.

Such high levels of toxins are deadly because rather than being expelled from the body or system, they are absorbed and passed on to the next generation, thus accumulating. The level of mercury in whale tissue, for example, is as high as 16 parts per million. Keeping in mind that 1 part per million in the body of fish is considered inedible, you can see that this is a serious issue.

The state of the earth is like a Rubik’s cube—when you shift one square all the other sides shift as well. We have reached astounding achievements in our history, from inventions to scaling the highest peaks in the world to walking on the Moon, so we know we have the capacity to reverse this situation before it’s too late, but we need major changes.

So what kind of leadership skills will be required in the future?

1. Gurbaksh Chahal, born  1982

Also known as G, an American entrepreneur, author and TV Personality, Chahal appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show. He created:

• Clickagents.com at the age of 16 , sold it for $40 million to Yahoo in 2000
• BlueLithium.com at the age of 22, sold it for $300 million to Yahoo in 2006

He was born in India and moved with his family to the USA at the age of 4. After having difficulties with his peers at school he concentrated on expanding his own creativity, which brought to life his first company and was soon followed by his second invention BlueLithium.

• the best revenge is doing well; his dream fuelled his success

2.  DAVID KIM, born 1979

While in college, David started teaching young kids. When he saw how they improved he knew that it was something that he should be working on. He loved watching their ability to improve at anything they really wanted. “Being able to motivate them and relate to them, since I wasn’t that much older, I saw there was a niche for that type of mentoring and tutoring.”

• taking care of the pupil’s individuality
• working with the right people, choosing excellent tutors and expanding the brand
• knowing the big picture, the purpose of his business

3. GARY GOLDBERG, born 1970

America,  Rhode Island -  cleanrest.com  – 1998 – $20 million

This is a company that produces allergy barrier bedding products. The idea first came to Goldberg after his young child had major problems with allergies which prevented him from sleeping because of the dust mite waste. The high quality products he needed did not exist at that time, so he decided to invent them.

Core values:

• obsessed with improvement
• obsessed with security of people’s health
• perfectionism: be the best, and the market is always for there you
• authenticity and honesty, and building the brand on the foundation of integrity and high quality products

Never give up. “Everything that I have ever started in my entrepreneurial career has been mocked at the onset. People would say: ‘That’s ridiculous. What do you think you’re going to do? Why would anybody want that?’ If you believe in it, rationalize it, go back to it and rework it. It can happen.”

4. TONY HSIEH, born 1970

Zappos.com with Nick Swinmurn

This is a one-stop online shop for men’s, women’s and children’s shoes that is projecting $1 billion in sales by the end of 2010.

An idea emerged when Nick Swinmurn went to the mall and lost time searching for shoes that he wanted. A light bulb moment arrived with the will to simplify and create an online store.  He encouraged Tony Hsieh to invest his money and from 1999 to 2003 the company made $65 million.

• self-reliance
• simplicity
• be humble
• create fun and little weirdness

When the whole world of possibilities is right at your doorstep?

Imagine working from home stuffing envelopes for years and years? How boring and disastrous! And it takes so little to be independent, both emotionally and financially…

Personal development coaches say that the ability to move forward is really about getting rid of limiting decisions. And limiting decisions show up in our lives because of some deeper misunderstanding within ourselves.

These negative, habitual behaviors exist because something deep down in ourselves needs them to exist. There is a root-cause of everything that happens in life. And it can be changed. We will find a rich depth of color in our lives when we act to fulfill our passions. And then with every single step we take, it becomes more and more obvious that the best is yet to come!

What is the key to succeed in business? Why is it that some people seem to make money almost effortlessly while others struggle without seeing results? Defining What You Want

Perseverance is a little like being stubborn, and you have to be stubborn in the face of all the obstacles you are likely to encounter, from well-meaning family members who tell you to give up, to rejections from people or businesses you target, to your own fears.

Overcoming Obstacles

The most difficult obstacle in the way of achieving your goals is mindset. The people who succeed in business have one thing in common: they have the utmost confidence in themselves and their abilities and have trained their mind to fully believe they can achieve success. When you have high self-esteem you are able to dream big, take action and appropriate risks, and follow through. Learn to see barriers and failures as learning tools. The best way to condition a new, positive mindset is to fashion your thinking and your actions after other successful people.

Wouldn’t it be great if you could actually be mentored by someone who has succeeded in business, someone who is wealthy and someone who is actually interested in sharing his knowledge and successes with other people?

Billionaire entrepreneur Bill Bartmann is such a person. He offers advice and a mentoring program in which he shares his philosophy for succeeding in business.
